As a Network Marketer there is a constant need to find potential customers or “prospects” for our goods and services.
Traditionally, we were taught to initially focus on family and friends. These are referred to as “warm” leads. The goals was to get prospects to attend hotel meetings or listen to conference calls. Perhaps we made cold calls to strangers from a list we had bought from a lead generation company or even straight out of the phone book. With any of these methods there was a excellent chance we got small or no results for our efforts.
There are a three key reasons I see as to why you might be failing in your network marketing, multi-level-marketing (MLM), or home based business.
1) Mindset and productivity – Many people join such opportunities, because they often expect to get rich quick. They do not have the mental endurance and did not realize that to have a successful business it is going to take time and a lot of effort to build a strong foundation. You will have to learn to focus on the solutions and not the problems. You will have to be very aware of what you are doing and be productive. Many people spend too much time preparing to start instead of just starting. It does not always have to be excellent, but does need to get done. You can always improve your work along the way as you learn something new, but if you’re constantly preparing without accomplishing anything productive you are never going to get where you want to go.
There are thousands of people looking for online businesses these days. People are looking for quick, simple, and affective ways of making money. Most of these people have small to no business background but are lured by promises such as “no experience needed” or “So simple a child could do it.” What these people need to know is that starting a business is never simple and although they might have success within whatever business or program they are getting themselves into, they are going to have to work extremely hard to achieve success.
Toby called from Perth, Australia the other day to question me, how do I attract network marketing leads for my business?
Toby has been in his business for three years, during which he has built a downline with 23 people. Over the past 6 months his business has come to a staggering holt. Like most network marketers he had gone through his ‘name list’ in addition to work hundreds of bought leads. His distress was that the leads were becoming too expensive and he could no longer keep them up. So he chose to obtain his own leads by sending out flyers.
Toby was not just waiting for people to approach him about his business opportunity, he would average 1500 flyers a month. He was not just targeting anyone, he only sent his flyers to the middle class suburbs. At the time, Toby thought this was a brilliant thought. His rationale was that many middle class people are stuck paying off a large debt and struggling to make ends meet.
